The first prototype Tiger tank was completed and presented to Hitler in time for his birthday on April 20, 1942 with production starting in August 1942. The Tiger was feared by many of its opponents, but it was over-engineered and was time-consuming to produce. It took 300,000 man hours to build one Tiger and only 1,347 Tiger I’s were produced during WW2 compared to the American Sherman Tank with over 58,000 produced and 25,000 man hours to build.
